The Canadian Youth Assembly (CYA) is a youth created and youth run non-profit organization. A group of youth gathered to discuss and write the organization’s governing documents and all of our volunteers are young Canadians. We maintain volunteers throughout Canada and run local and national projects with the aim of sparking the interest and involvement of youth.
The CYA strives to maintain a bottom up structure and thus maintains a strong dialogue between members of the organization and youth in general. While few organizations can honestly state that they take their direction from youth the CYA proudly boasts this accomplishment. Any youth is able to become involved in the organization as a member, volunteer, or candidate and devote as much or as little time as they can to shaping our organization.
The CYA has thus spent two years discussing, debating, and developing its direction and structure. After vast consultation the organization has decided to focus on a national assembly of youth while maintaining regular projects.
The primary project of the CYA is a national youth assembly wherein youth run in an election to attend as an elected Youth Representative (though other youth are still very much welcome). We also run year-round projects such as The Representative and CYA! Volunteering in order to reach our goals.
The CYA focuses on three key areas:
Education: We run conferences and a national youth assembly which serve to inform, engage, and involve youth.
Volunteerism: Volunteering is the backbone of Canadian society. We help teach youth the importance of volunteering, give them the tools to succeed in any role, and help them find the position they are looking for.
Dialogue: There is an apparent gap between youth and decision makers, we work to bridge this gap by showing youth that leaders care and will support them in their efforts.
